Welcome to Wabek, ND!

This Soo Line Railroad townsite was founded in 1914 when the railroad began to extend its Max branch line beyond Plaza to Sanish. It was located in the southwest quarter of section 21-152-88, Plaza Township three miles south of Plaza, and given an Indian name thought to refer to nearby Shell Creek. The post office was established July 7, 1917 with Rasmus J. Torgerson as Postmaster. The village incorporated in 1918, but this status was dissolved in 1966 as the population dropped from a 1930 high of 46 to just 14 in 1960. In 1924-1925 the village boasted of a radio station, appropriately with the call letters WABK. In 1979 only a bar remained in operation at this site.
