Geocache Description:

This is the Archer county cache in a twelve part series of caches highlighting historical locations in the twelve counties of the Boy Scout’s North West Texas Council. Each cache is themed with a point in the Scout Law. This was done as my Eagle Project.

We are all familiar with the threat of being put in “time-out.” This and many other ways are used to try to mold us to obedience. This was one such facility used by the people of Archer County to try to keep its residents law abiding. This building was completed in Sept. 1910. The sandstone structure was designed with living quarters for the sheriff and his family on the ground floor. The second and third floors had cells and a hanging gallows which, because hanging was outlawed soon after construction, the gallows were never used. The first prisoner held here was arrested for stealing a horse.
