This small hillock is called Pay Poak and is situated on the other side of the Nam Song river from the town of Vang Vieng.
At the top of the hillock is a red flag on a pole which can be seen from most of the sunset bars back in town. The view from up top is spectacular. The cache is a large plastic container and it is placed below the flag itself, no need to climb to the flag itself to get the cache. It is in a black kayak bag to protect against the elements and hidden under a rock
The convulated route to get here is via the rice paddies, so the dry season is a must. The track starts from the bamboo bridge. The track is well defined by a series of blue and white flags on poles to get to the parking area at the base of the hillock. Here you must pay 10,000kip to do the climb.
There is a cave there that you can explore in the first section, this section is quite easy. The path up is a mixture of bamboo ladders, steep path and rocks to climb over, it gets steeper after the cave.
You don't need to be especially fit to grab this cache, just take your time, the scenery is worth it.
First To Find will find a 50,000kip prize. There are a few trades inside and of course a log book, with pen, pencil and sharpener
Hopefully this slightly easier cache will attract some attention in this area.
Small note on cache maintenance:
There is a local cache guardian who will assist.
