Geocache Description:

The Tamarack Trail is no longer maintained. Indeed, it has even been removed from many maps of the area.  It is rocky, often wet and muddy, and occasionally difficult to follow.  For these very reasons, it is one of my favorite ways to disappear from the world for a while without having to go very far.

The official boundary of Desolation Wilderness is about halfway up the trail, where it emerges from the forest onto a large bluff with a commanding view of Lily Lake and Fallen Leaf beyond.  This large rocky outcropping is one of my favorite places to read a book, tackle a crossword, or simply sit back and marvel at nature's beauty.  Soul-enriching solitude is practically guaranteed.

To reach the cache, find the trailhead just off the road to Lily Lake (take a left into the trees before the bridge).  If you've looked for GC3RGX2: Logs on Logs you already know where to begin.  The cache is nestled away among some rocks behind a windworn tree; Trust your Geosenses and it shouldn't be too hard to find. Getting there is the real adventure.  Make sure you have good shoes, plenty of water, and your camera.  You don't need a permit to snag this cache, but if you grab one at the Lily Lake parking lot, you're free to continue past GZ to play among the peaks of a wilderness wonderland.
