Geocache Description:

Blackhall Place is the place where the nation's solicitors - all 13,440 of them - qualify for the job. It is housed in a daunting 240 year-old building designed by architect Thomas Ivory. As with all professions, a considerable effort is made to instill that sense of innate superiority, often confused with arrogance, required to make hard decisions. Seriously, have you ever met a humble solicitor? Thus, the grandeur of the surroundings helps the sustenance of a real sense of exclusiveness.

Not that all is well in the game - 1,200 are in receipt of unemployment assistance. The building started life as a school - the Blue Coat School - and maintained that role for nearly 200 years. Funds dried up during its construction, and Ivory left in disgust when the complex was dramatically downsized. Nevertheless, what was actually constructed is most impressive, and worth a visit. The mature trees to the front include some magnificant specimens.

When you call, be sure to approach by the main gate.
