Cachiversary 1: Forget-Me-Nots Traditional Geocache

Markwell: As much as I hate to do this, the IDNR are not responding to my requests. I called one of the land managers back in March to ask about putting the cache back up and he said that I needed to resubmit my application (and he wasn't too hopeful that it would be approved).

I resubmitted it, but then have never heard from him.

So to all that have found this wonderful area in the last four years, thanks. It has been great coming out here for numerous maintenance trips, and to make sure that everything is on the up-and-up with the IDNR, but I don't have the energy to fight a bureaucracy that won't even contact me back.

Geocache Description:

A Cache Placed to Honor the First Year I Spent Geocaching

This cache now conforms to the guidelines for the Illinois State Park System for Geocaching. Please do NOT go far off the trail, it is not necessary, and can be hazardout in some places. There are dells and steep drop offs in the area. I have secured permission for this cache's new location from the land manager of the Starved Rock/Matthessien State Parks. The information has been for this cache has been filed in their main office.Please be sure to secure the container exactly as you left it with the seal completely intact, and do NOT leave food items in the cache (or anything that even REMOTELY smells like food).
Best parking for this long duration hike (just over a half-mile as the GPS flies and probably 60-90 minutes in and out) is at N 41° 17.771 by W 089° 01.514. I’ve taken great steps to make this cache invisible to the passerby. Please cover your tracks (if you make any) and replace the cache EXACTLY as you found it.
  • Forget-Me-Not #1: I've been wanting to place a cache here ever since I started placing caches. Now that I've been hiding and finding for exactly one year (I found my first cache March 13, 2001), I wanted a "Memorial" to my first year in Geocaching.
  • Forget-Me-Not #2: When my wife and I were dating years ago, we went to this fabulous park with our friends and hiked the whole area. It's a memory that I'd like to always have, so the cache is in remembrance of those days gone by.
  • Forget-Me-Not #3: This state park is mostly overlooked by the larger and more popular park to the north. However, I personally think I enjoy hiking in this park much more due to its remote feeling and lesser fame.
Make sure you leave plenty of time to explore the north loop of this park – it is truly magnificent. This is what Geocaching is all about.

you have access to another part of the park. There is a rock that can be seen in the photo below that is due north of the access point. Take a picture of your GPS sitting on top of this rock and log this cache as "found" second time.
