The history
During the War of 1812, the winter of 1813 was one of extreme cold and heavy snows. Between February and April, the 104th Regiment of Foot marched more than 1100 kilometres from Fredericton, New Brunswick to Kingston, Ontario to reinforce British troops and thwart an expected invasion by the Americans. This effort by a regiment of poorly clothed, frostbitten and hungry soldiers stands as an incredible feat in military history. This series commemorates the March of New Brunswick’s 104th and the locations where they manned forts, blockhouses, and outposts as well as some key personnel.

Une histoire authentiquement canadienne. Durant la guerre de 1812, l’hiver 1813 a été d’une rigueur extrême et a été marqué de nombreuses chutes de neige. De février à avril, le 104e Régiment d’infanterie a marché plus de 1100 kilomètres, de Fredericton, au Nouveau-Brunswick, à Kingston, en Ontario, pour prêter main-forte aux troupes britanniques et bloquer une invasion projetée par les Américains. Cette épreuve, réalisée par un régiment de soldats pauvrement vêtus, souffrant de la froidure et rongés par la faim, marque un exploit remarquable dans les annales militaires. This cache location
Major William Drummond joined the regiment on 1809. While he marched to Canada in 1813 with the 104th, he was not initially employed with it. Instead, he was assigned staff positions such as that of Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General. He took command of New Brunswick’s 104th Regiment of Foot in June 1814 and fought with it during the summer campaign along the Niagara frontier. He was killed in action on 15 August 1814 while leading one of the columns attacking Fort Erie that was held by the Americans.

Le major William Drummond s’est joint au régiment en 1809. Bien qu’il ait fait la marche avec le 104e, il a quitté momentanément le régiment afin d’occuper certains postes, notamment celui de quartier-maître général adjoint. Il a pris le commandement du 104e Régiment de fantassins du Nouveau-Brunswick en juin 1814 et combattu à sa tête pendant la campagne d’été, à la frontière de Niagara. Il est mort au combat le 15 août 1814 alors qu’il commandait une des colonnes attaquant le Fort Erie, aux mains des Américains.
