L’aven de la Barelle se trouve sur la D.986, route de St Enimie à Meyrueis. Après avoir passé le carrefour de l'Aven Armand (la grotte touristique), faite environ 1km en direction de Meyrueis. L'aven étant dans le Parc National des Cévennes, sur la limite, il faudra vous garer au waypoint indiqué, sur votre gauche au niveau du bosquet de pins. Ensuite, il faut traverser la route pour rejoindre une piste et descendre sur votre gauche dans le fond de la doline où s'ouvre l'aven.
Sa découverte date de la fin du 19ème siècle par EA Martel mais c’est louis Balsan et son équipe qui en juillet 1932 pousse sa découverte jusqu’à -87m.
L’entrée de l'aven est un magnifique entonnoir, ou une énorme marmite de géant.
Attention, après une pluie l’accès peut être très glissant et très dangereux.
Son développement est de 702m pour une dénivellation de -126m. Après un premier ressaut de 4m, il s’enchaîne par une succession de puits, se terminant par un siphon.
Cet aven et un autre tout proche de la Morto-vieille, devaient s’écouler vers les grottes d’en dessous, notament celle de Nabrigas puis vers la jonte.

The aven of Barelle is on the D.986, route de St Enimie Meyrueis. After passing the intersection of Aven Armand (the tourist cave), made about 1km towards Meyrueis. The aven is in the Cévennes National Park, on the boundary, it will park at waypoint indicated on your left at the pine grove. Then you have to cross the road to reach a track on your left and down in the bottom of the sinkhole that opens the aven.
