Geocache Description:

This is the 50th of a series in which a red telephone box is to be found within 20 feet of a red post box.

The published co-ordinates will take you to the location of this 'Fine Pair' which has been offered to the local council / community for adoption. Unfortunately the offer has not, as yet, been taken up.

These phone boxes, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in the 1920's, have become collectors’ items and an example of things quintessentially English.

For more information on these phone boxes, see the Wikipedia entry Red Telephone Box.

This cache is not really in the village of Rudgwick proper. If you are approaching from the Guildford Road (A281), turn south onto Haven Road - signposted to "The Haven". In 500 metres you will see a lay-by on the left big enough for 3 cars. Park there, you will see the Fine Pair 200 metres ahead.

Woo hoo! Half century reached!!

On the letterbox, you will find a "Postbox number": RHJK LMN. Use the numbers represented here by the letters J,K,L,M, and N to determine the co-ordinates for the cache as follows:

N 51° 04.ABC W 000° 27.DEF where

A = (L +M + N)
B = (J + K + L +M)
C = (K + N)
D = L
E = K
F = N

Why not relax on the lovely bench while you work through the complex maths?

Most Fine Pairs seem to end up as cache and dash traditional micros, so we thought it would be nice to add another dimension to this one. It can still be done as a cache and dash, but we have tried to make the container a bit more interesting. It's not a nano, but there is still no room for TBs or Geocoins.

If anybody would like to extend 'A Fine Pair' series you are welcome to do so but first please contact wizardsmum, the series originator, and request a Pair number as she keeps track of the numbers and names of these caches to avoid duplication.

Note: BT no longer accepts the placement of caches in the telephone boxes whilst they retain ownership.

Have a nice day!
