Língua Gestual
A expressão "língua gestual" refere-se à língua materna de uma comunidade de surdos. As línguas gestuais são línguas naturais, que se surgem e se desenvolvem naturalmente, como as línguas orais. Esta língua é produzida por movimentos das maos, do corpo e por expressões faciais e a sua recepção é visual. Tem um vocabulario e gramática próprios.
Uma língua é um sistema de comunicação específico e exclusivo do ser humano, sendo gerido por regras particulares. Assim como as línguas orais, a LGP (Língua Gestual Portuguesa) possui as características das línguas naturais:
- é composta, maioritariamente por símbolos arbitrários;
- é um sistema linguístico;
- é partilhada por uma comunidade de pessoas que a utilizam como sua forma de expressão mais natural;
- possui propriedades como a creatividade e a recursividade;
- possui aspectos contrastivos;
- é um sistema em constante renovação e evolução: apresenta o fenómeno da dinâmica linguistica.
Há quem pense que a língua gestual, em todo o mundo, é igual, o que não é verdade. Assim como as línguas orais, as línguas gestuais desenvolveram-se naturalmente, e assim sendo, cada comunidade tem a sua.
Existem países com diversas línguas gestuais e em todo o mundo existem dezenas de línguas gestuais diferentes. Além disso, os surdos sentem as mesmas dificuldades que os ouvintes quando necessitam comunicar com outros que utilizam uma língua diferente. Por isso, cada país (e, por vezes, região dentro de um país, como acontece no Québec onde é usada a Língua Gestual Quebequiana ao invés da Língua Gestual Americana no resto do país) terá a sua própria língua gestual. Por exemplo, no Brasil existe a Língua Brasileira de Sinais (LIBRAS).
Para acrescentar, como qualquer língua oral, a LGP possui variantes dentro do seu próprio órgão (idioma), alterando, relativamente, de região para região e dependendo do grau de instrução e das profissões dos surdos em cada uma das regiões. Existem, por isso, dialetos regionais. Nesta cache pretendo dar continuidade a um pequeno estudo, saber quem realmente le as listings, assim sendo pede-se aos geocachers que leram a listing que: ao efectuar o log o seu primeiro caractere seja um arroba obrigado.
Inicialmente, em Portugal, a comunicação através da língua gestual era proibida. Os surdos falavam entre si, através da língua gestual, clandestinamente. O governo não reconhecia a LGP como língua materna das crianças surdas, tendo-as deixado à mercê da boa vontade (ou não) dos professores do ensino regular. Entre grupos restritos de surdos, sem qualquer forma de poder ser fixada, uniformizada ou padronizada, a LGP foi-se desenvolvendo. Não havia intérpretes nas escolas, todos os Surdos eram obrigados a comunicar-se oralmente. No entanto, a língua gestual tinha já uma estrutura forte. Desde 1997, a Língua Gestual Portuguesa passou a ser uma das línguas oficiais de Portugal, junto com a Língua Portuguesa e o Mirandês.

Sign Language

The term "sign language" refers to the first language of a deaf community. Sign languages are natural languages, which grow and develop naturally, like oral languages. This language is produced by movements of hands, body and facial expressions, and reception is visual. It has a vocabulary and grammar own.
A language is a communication system specific and unique human being, being run by special rules. Just like spoken languages, the LGP (Portuguese Sign Language) has the characteristics of natural languages:
- is composed mainly of arbitrary symbols;
- is a linguistic system;
- is shared by a community of people who use it as their most natural form of expression;
- has properties such as creativity and recursion;
- Have contrastive aspects;
- is a system in constant evolution and renewal: presents the phenomenon of linguistic dynamics.
Some think that the sign language in the world is equal, which is not true. Just like spoken languages, sign languages have evolved naturally and therefore, each community has its.
There are countries with different sign languages in the world and there are dozens of different sign languages. Moreover, the deaf feel the same difficulties that listeners when they need to communicate with others using a different language. Therefore, each country (and sometimes region within a country, as in Quebec where it is used to Quebequiana Sign Language instead of American Sign Language in the rest of the country) have their own sign language. For example, Brazil is the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras).
To add, as any oral language, the LGP has variants within his own body (language), changing, relatively, from region to region and depending on the level of education of the deaf and occupations in each region. Initially, Portugal, communication through sign language was forbidden. Deaf people talked among themselves, through sign language, clandestinely. The government did not recognize the LGP mother tongue of deaf children, and left them at the mercy of the goodwill (or not) of regular teachers. Between restricted groups of deaf, without any form of power be fixed, uniform or standardized, the LGP has developed. There were no interpreters in schools, all Deaf were required to communicate orally. However, sign language already has a strong structure. Since 1997, the Portuguese Sign Language became an official language of Portugal, along with the Portuguese and Mirandese.
