Geocache Description:

Cache is at the posted coordinates

I have come across and done several elevation challenges all of which required the cacher to find a cache from a minimum elevation to a maximum elevation either in 500 foot or 1000 foot increments. I even made a special trip to Death Valley to get a below sea level find. This elevation challenge is different from those but probably not unique in the caching world, little is.

50 Caches @ 8000ft + 4 Icons = 4.5/5.0 (Challenge), don’t fret about my math, I was a recipient of the California public school system. But in a nutshell for this one you will need to find at least 50 caches at or above 8000 feet in elevation… more details below.

Logging Requirements: To log this cache you must find a minimum of 50 caches that are located at or above 8000 feet in elevation and at least 4 different cache types (icons).

Alternate Logging Method: Find 50 caches above 8000 ft. and at least 4 of those are above 10,000 feet then the icon requirement will be waived. For either logging method, if you own any caches above 8000 feet you may include it/them in your “found” and “type” count.

My Stats: A geo pet-peeve of mine is a challenge cache that the CO doesn’t qualify for him or herself, here are my stats, not including this one. 52 found or hidden caches at 8000 feet, 6 different types (icons), 5 caches found above 10,000 feet.

This cache is located at approximately 9000ft so if you need the unknown icon and or you only have 49 finds, you may use this cache as your 50th.

There are numerous ways to find the elevation of a cache and numerous ways to display it. No matter how you choose to prove your finds, list, GSAK screen shot, etc, you must include the GC Code, cache name, when you found it, the cache type, trad, multi, unknown…etc and of course the elevation. A bookmark list won’t work for this challenge since there is no elevation information on BM list.

Parking is available year-round, during the winter (Nov 1 to May 1) it is a sno-park operated by CalTrans with a fee and you need to purchase it beforehand, during the summer it is operated by the Feds with a fee. I don’t know if the cache is available year round, guess that depends on the cacher. If you do attempt in the winter, a shovel would be helpful. Before hiking in the Sierras during the winter you might want to check out the Sierra Avalanche Center
