Geocache Description:

Visit caches near 35 ME summits. Coords are bogus.

A couple winters ago, I skimmed every cache listing in Maine, and was impressed by how many were near mountain summits particularly the earlier ones.

Many years ago I was talking to a man who owned land at the base of one of the hundred highest mountains of New England. He had met people climbing the "hundred mountains" and had decided to climb 100 mountains himself. As he started telling me which mountains he was going to climb, I realized that he didn't know those people were using a particular list and had made up his own. I didn't say a word - I'm sure his list is more meaningful to himself than someone elses would be.

But for this segment you only need to visit 35 different summits, or rather caches located within .1 mile (rounded) of the summit. Geocaching.com maps show summit markers. An official list of summits can be obtained from the US Board of Geographic Names [select State of "Maine", Feature Class of "Summit"].

A longer list which includes some unnamed summits and has a nicer interface is at
http://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/searchindex.php?State=ME

Logs should be in text form and include summit name, summit elevation, and link to your log for each of the 35 caches, such as
Mt Battie 790 hppt://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=8222839f-bde6-4d84-bd88-bbb765955947

To get log URL to paste in, either right-click on "View Log" in your list of finds, or copy URL from title bar while viewing log

A few more rules:
* Summit elevation must be 700 feet or more
* Unknown/mystery caches and other caches with bogus coordinates are not eligible - for a multi only the first stage counts
* Micro size caches are not eligible
* If it is not obvious that the cache is close enough, enter the summit coordinates from BGN or LoJ into "Hide and Seek a Cache" and the distance must be .1 mi or less
* Bookmarks are not acceptable unless they include an extra link to your particular log
* Lists may be e-mailed instead of posted if you want to make it harder for the next cacher or want them checked in advance

Coords are fake to reduce spurious logs by those who don't read this page, the actual cache location is .012' S and .019' E from the coords given which are for a small gravel parking space

parmachenee not only was first to submit a peak list, but had to find the cache using wrong coords - sorry about that! But this is nothing new for them, they were FTF on a mountain cache without coords at all that has never been found again!
