Geocache Description:

This is a back country geocache requiring a long hike and climbing well above timberline.

See GCQ39M for details about the various ways to approach the area this cache is in.

The cache is on top of Middle Truchas Peak, sometimes called West Truchas Peak, at over 13,000 feet elevation.  Getting there requires a very long hike and scrambling up talus slopes, but can be done without any technical climbing (no ropes).  This should be attempted only by fit and experienced back country hikers.  The reward for this effort is tremendous views over the surrounding mountains and valleys.  On the way, you may see bighorn sheep, elk, turkeys, and other wildlife.

The cache itself is at the base of a boulder just below and south of the top.  Take a copy of the photo of the cache to make sure you can find it when you get there.  This cache will probably not be available in the winter, as it may be under snow.
