Geocache Description:

The village of Imber lies in the middle of no-where. In the middle of Salisbury Plain. A deserted village which has a story dating back into the mists of time and coming to an abrupt end during World War II.

We explored Imber early in 2012 and were surprised at what we found there. An amazing place to visit. Quite eerie.
Our plan is to visit the village again on one of the special open days.
What better than to attend a Geocaching Event between Christmas and New Year?
A time when we all want to walk off some of the excesses of Christmas!
In the village itself there is the Anglican Church of St Giles, and the Baptist cemetery, untouched by Military Manoeuvers. Surrounding the church are regularly changing buildings which simulate those to be found in the field of conflict.

The plan is to visit the village in the morning, meeting up at 12:00 hrs in the car park to log the event and take a group photo, eat our picnic lunches, exchange Seasonal Greetings, etc, etc. To celebrate the season and wish everyone a Happy New Year we'll organise some punch. If the weather is poor, we have been given access to the church.

The Church should be open so there will be tea and coffee, local cakes available. There is an interesting museum collection within the church, telling the story of some of the former residents of Imber.

Bring a camera and binoculars. As long as you do not leave the carriageways you are able to take photos of the tanks etc.

The Trig Point is generally unavailable as it is out of bounds! Please respect the rules...disobedience may result in you being blown up!

If you'd like to visit it though... as part of an organised group... you need to let us know how many of you there are. Please see the announcements in the listing for updates.

Please Note: This is a Military Training Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all bylaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, flags or lights.
