Louise Traditional Geocache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Professor Xavier: Hi

One of my roles as a reviewer is to monitor my region for caches that have been disabled for a long time, have had a reasonable number of DNFs or appear to require some maintenance. This is done through running a query on a database of all the caches in my region that looks for such things or by cachers submitting Needs Archiving logs as it appears maintenance may not be being carried out by the CO.

It would appear that this cache may benefit from some attention by the CO. May I ask that the owner checks the cache and sort out any problems with it or gives an indication of when it may be up and running again for people to find. If this cannot be done or if the CO no longer wishes to maintain the cache then the listing should be archived.

Of course if the CO has visited the cache recently then please post an Owner Maintenance log indicating that they have done so, enable the listing, and all should be fine.

In the future, if a listing is going to be disabled for a long time then posting periodic notes to the page (once per month or so) keeps people up to date with what is happening.

This isn't a requirement to fix the cache immediately but if it's unlikely to be done within 30 days could the CO post a note to the cache page giving an indication of when the maintenance will be done, or an indication of why it cannot be carried out.

By all means send a mail to me through my profile, quoting the cache name and GC code, but please also post a note to the cache page. Emails to me may be missed or go astray and it would be a shame to archive the listing due to missing correspondence.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

Sadly if there is no response to this log after 30 days I may have to archive the cache.

Please note that the guidelines say that if a cache is archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ staff for lack of maintenance then it will not be unarchived - Unarchiving a Geocache

Geocache Description:

A lovely walk along the lovely Blackwater river with 4 caches to be found, as well as clues to be collected on the way for a multi at the end.

CONGRATS TO emandden FOR THE FTF :)

This series of caches is our first and has been set out to celebrate my Wife Louise’s 40th Birthday on 12th Sept(hence the odd female names of the caches – they are all her first/middle name!)

The area has many happy memories for me playing over here as a child before The Meadows shopping centre and section of the A321 along here were built.

Total distance if you do all 5 caches (inc multi) is approx 2.7 miles and the route takes you in a loop.

Parking easiest at N51 20.328 W000 47.031 where there is the Shepherd Meadow Car Park which is free and has lots of spaces. The terrain is flat but can get wet/muddy sometimes as this is a flood plain area.

Shepherd Meadows and Sandhurst Memorial Park are Green Flag award winning neighbouring sites on the River Blackwater in Sandhurst. They are open to the public and provide a range of facilities and attractions for a variety of formal and informal activities. The site lies along the River Blackwater between Sandhurst and Blackwater and encompasses land both in Hampshire and Berkshire.

Shepherd Meadows is part of the Blackwater Valley Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to important meadows and wildlife.
Flower-rich meadows are now rare and about one quarter of the species associated with herb-rich grassland in Berkshire can be found at Shepherd Meadows.
The meadows become a carpet of wild flowers and plants during the spring and summer months, with:
  • Devil's Bit Scabious
  • Birds-foot Trefoil
  • Meadowsweet
The meadows are also rich in animal, insect and birdlife. There are over 600 insect and bird species to be found such as:
  • Siskin
  • Meadow Pipit
  • Kestrel
  • Spotted Flycatcher
  • Woodpecker
The River Blackwater also attracts many waterfowl and wading birds, we have often seen a Heron here when we have visited.
Shepherd Meadows is named after wildlife artist David Shepherd and consists of 40 hectares (100 acres) of wet meadows and woodlands which is managed by Bracknell Forest Council for its wildlife value.

To find out more about this area then you can visit Bracknell Forest Council Website at Bracknell Forest Council

The caches have been placed here with the very kind permission of Bracknell Council and The Blackwater Valley Conservation team. Special thanks to the Site Ranger who has been very helpful with the planning and getting permissions for the caches.
As the area is of Special Scientific Interest please can you ensure that you do not stray away from the paths. The cache locations are all very close to the path and whilst they are camouflaged, they should still be easy to find. The sizes of the containers vary but there are no micros hidden in the dreaded ivy! There is no need to venture far away and please do not pick any of the wild flowers.

Whilst you are here why not check out The Raspberry Walkies Series at Sandhurst Memorial Park which is next door and has a great play area for the kids.

This cache is in a small clip box with room for small swaps and travel bugs/coins. Please replace it carefully and ensure it is hidden from the path.
