Geocache Description:

This cache is placed next to historic Boot Hill Cemetery. Many people travel here to see the Old West monument, but don't know about this little addition to the south. So come check out Boot Hill Cemetery, then grab this cache only steps (but hidden) away...

When I was a firefighter back in California, I was working a structure fire when the roof caved in on me (us). As I witnessed the rooftop support beam fall towards my head, I resigned that this would be the day that I died. I was surprisingly calm in that moment. And the funny thing is, I didn't think of my family. I didn't think of my girlfriend who I thought I was going to marry (I didn't). I didn't think of my life as it didn't flash in front of my eyes. I only had one thought run through my mind as the end came: I don't get to own a dog. That sucks. Just over a month later I had left the FD, moved to Utah and had adopted Kenna from a local shelter. She was 6 weeks old. For the next 17 years we went everywhere together. We were always looking for adventures to go on! I only took jobs that I could bring her. I only dated girls that knew they were second fiddle to her. We trained each other. She loved horse poop and refused to eat Top Ramen. She and I traveled all over the US, Canada and Alaska. She was the ring bearer at my wedding. She was the best companion that I could have ever had. Life moves on as it does and it came time to send her on her final adventure. It is still one of the worst days of my life. I don't think I'll ever be over her. I was fortunate to be able to send her off in an area as adventurous as she was. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her and I visit her often. I miss that dog. And I'm grateful that she got to meet my kids... I wish that everyone could get to experience companionship such as what I had with Kenna.
