La romane de Corme Royal Traditional Geocache

L'église Saint-Nazaire est une église romane du XII^e siècle.

The church Saint-Nazaire is a Romanic church of the XIIth century.

Elle était primitivement l'église du prieuré bénédictin qui dépendait de l'abbaye Notre-Dame de Saintes. Elle a été fortifiée au XV^e siècle par construction d'un chemin de ronde crénelé sur tout le mur sud de la nef

 It was primitively the church of the priory Benedictine who depended on the abbey Saintes  Notre-Dame. It was strengthened in the XVth century by construction of a cove red way carved on all the south wall of the nave.

Typique du schéma saintongeais, la façade à deux étages présente, au niveau inférieur, un portail à deux arcatures aveugles, surmonté à l'étage supérieur, d'une grande baie centrale encadrée de deux fausses fenêtres.

Le répertoire iconographique est aussi caractéristique de la région: Vierges sages et Vierges folles, et Psychomachie (combat des vices et des vertus); et il s'étend ici plus largement que dans les autres églises de la région.

Typical of the plan saintongeais, the facade in two floors presents, at the lower level, a portal to two blind arcatures, surmounted in the upper floor, of a big central bay framed by two blind windows.

The iconographic directory is also characteristic of the region: wise Virgos and crazy Virgos, and Psychomachie (fight of the vices and the virtues); and it extends here more widely than in the other churches of the region.

L'église est au coeur du petit village de Corme Royal, entre Saintes et l'île d'oléron.
Vous pouvez vous garer sur la place principale; l'église est à une dizaine de mètres.
