Geocache Description:

Camo offering drive by near one of the gold medal post boxes. Parking available just before the box.

Katherine Copeland and Sophie Hosking won the gold Medal in the Women's lightweight double skulls at the London 2012 Olympics in a time of 7 minutes 9.3 seconds. They were second at half way but pulled away to win by 2 seconds from china and then Greece.

kat was captured on camera commenting "we've just won the olympics!, we're going to be on a stamp tomorrow!"

She is from ingleby barwick and with the royal mail having the excellent idea of having gold medal post boxes it seemed appropriate to celebrate with a cache.

Info on gold post boxes :-

  • Some of Royal Mail's much-loved red post boxes will turn gold this summer to celebrate every Team GB and ParalympicsGB gold medal win
  • The UK is believed to be the first country to paint post boxes gold to celebrate Olympic and Paralympic gold medal wins
  • The gold post boxes will be located in the home towns of the gold medallists wherever possible.  The transformation will happen within days of a gold medal win
  • This will be the first occasion in modern times when Royal Mail has changed the colour of its post boxes. Red has been the standard colour for UK boxes from 1874, with few exceptions
