SÉRIE 'O BRASIL NAS COPAS DO MUNDO' - Jogador #10: Pelé - "O Rei do Futebol"
Em 2014, a Copa do Mundo de Futebol foi disputada no Brasil. Esta série de caches tem o objetivo de celebrar este evento e repassar a história da seleção brasileira nas Copas do Mundo, do Campeonato de 1958 ao Pentacampeonato de 2002 e, quem sabe, o Hexacampeonato em 2018, na Rússia.
Dado que estamos aqui falando de futebol, foram selecionados, para esta série, 11 jogadores, representativos de cada um dos 5 campeonatos ganhos pelo Brasil desde 1958. Para cada campeonato ganho, 2 jogadores, num total de 10 jogadores, dos quais 1 é goleiro. E, para representar o conjunto da obra brasileira nas copas do mundo, o Rei do Futebol: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, o Pelé.
A escolha dos jogadores obedeceu a um critério: a relevância ou representatividade daquele jogador para a história do futebol brasileiro, no humilde entendimento do owner desta série de caches! O objetivo não é montar a "seleção brasileira dos sonhos" pois este owner sabe que, a depender das preferências individuais de cada um, a discussão poderia ser eterna.

JOGADOR #10: Pelé - "O Rei do Futebol"
O mundo tenta encontrar concorrentes à altura dele. Maradona, Platini, Puskás, Van Basten, Beckenbauer, Cristiano Ronaldo, a lista vai longe.... Sem a menor sombra de dúvida, todos muito bons jogadores, alguns campeões de Copas do Mundo, outros não, alguns ainda tentando. Falem o que quiser, mas Rei do Futebol, só mesmo um: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, o Pelé ("entende?" - essa só brasileiro vai entender, hahaha!)
Eu acredito que o mundo inteiro, até mesmo muitos brasileiros, deva se perguntar: mas o quê significa "Pelé"!?!?!? Alguém já reparou que praticamente só os brasileiros adotam apelidos como 'nome de guerra' no Futebol? Mania curiosa essa!
A origem do apelido é controversa. Uma versão diz que o apelido surgiu em função da dificuldade de Edson, quando criancinha, em pronunciar o nome de Bilé, goleiro do Vasco da Gama, e que quanto mais se esforçava em pronunciar mais errado ficava. Outra versão diz que Bilé era goleiro do São Lourenço, time em que jogava o pai de Edson - toda vez que Bilé saía para uma defesa, Edson gritava "Defende Bilé", e as crianças amiguinhas de Edson não conseguiam reproduzir a fala e o nome acabou virando Pelé. O fato concreto é que, independente da versão, Pelé é um nome que não tem qualquer outro significado em português que não seja "Rei do Futebol".
Pelé tornou-se eterno pela qualidade e magia de seu jogo. Os lances que protagonizou são repetidos até hoje em cenas de vídeo que ficaram para a história. O "chapéu" sobre o zagueiro sueco na final de 1958, o chute com efeito, de fora da área, no México em 1970, e a comemoração de um gol na mesma Copa de 1970, imagem que estampa a página deste cache.
Durante boa parte de sua carreira, Pelé jogou no Santos, o imbatível Santos das décadas de 60 e 70. Foi no Santos que Pelé eternizou a sua camisa, a de número 10, que até hoje é reservada aos jogadores mais destacados daquela equipe e da própria Seleção Brasileira (bem como desta série de caches!). Por falar em Seleção Brasileira, foi por ela que Pelé participou de 4 Copas do Mundo, tendo sido campeão em 3 delas: 1958 (C), 1962 (C), 1966 e 1970 (C).
Obviamente, além da camisa 10, foram muitos outros os legados de Pelé. É dele o famoso soco no ar após um gol. Foi também por obra dele que surgiu o termo "gol de placa" (autoria do jornalista Joelmir Beting) - em referência à placa que até hoje adorna o Maracanã e que celebra um inesquecível gol marcado por ele, pelo Santos, em uma vitória contra o Fluminense.
Poucos sabem, mas em 1967 uma guerra civil ocorria no então Congo Belga - as facções opostas declararam um armistício temporário em função da passagem da seleção brasileira em uma visita à África, com o Rei Pelé a bordo. Por fim, Pelé foi ainda Ministro dos Esportes do governo brasileiro entre 1995 e 1998.
O owner desta série de caches lamenta muito aos argentinos, franceses, alemães, portugueses e torcedores de tantas outras nacionalidades, fãs de jogadores realmente muito bons, mas admitamos aqui a verdade: Rei do Futebol, somente um - Edson Arantes do Nascimento, o Pelé.

'BRAZIL IN THE WORLD CUPS' GEOCACHE SERIES
In 2014, the World Cup of Soccer took place in Brazil. The objective of this cache series is to celebrate that event and review the history of the Brazilian national team in the World Cups, from the first victory in 1958 up to the fifth one in 2002 and, who knows, the 6th one in 2018, in Russia.
Given that we’re speaking about football here, a total of 11 players were picked for this cache series, representing each one of the 5 world cups won by Brazil since 1958. For each championship won, 2 players; 10 in total, 1 of them a goalkeeper. And, representing the Brazilian national team assembled conquests in the World Cups, the King of Football: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, aka Pelé.
The players’ selection followed one criterion: the relevance or representativeness of each player to the Brazilian soccer history, in the humble opinion of this series’ cache owner! The objective is not to assemble the “all time Brazilian national dream team” because this owner know that, depending on each one’s particular preferences, there would be eternal discussion!
BTW: thinking on the development of a ‘tourist friendly’ cache series, any information needed to solve the mysteries in this cache series can be found in English over the internet – a nicely done Google search, even with an English input, will do it – believe me, I’ve tested it!
You may pursue the whole series in one single sequence or to pick your favorite players to go after, as you prefer. If you want to go after the whole series, it is recommended to do it in the same order of the players and to be prepared for a 3km walk

PLAYER #10: Pelé - "The King of Football"
The world tries to find competitors to match him. Maradona, Platini, Puskás, Van Basten, Beckenbauer, Cristiano Ronaldo, the list goes on .... Without the slightest doubt, all very good players, some champions of the World Cup, some not, some still trying. Talk all you want, but King of Football, only one: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, aka Pelé.
I believe the whole world, even many Brazilians must ask: but what does "Pelé" mean!?!?!? Has anyone noticed that almost only Brazilians adopt nicknames like 'nom de guerre' in football? What a curious habit!
The origin of the nickname is controversial. One version says that the nickname arose due to the difficulty of Edson, when he was a little child, pronouncing the name of Bilé, Vasco da Gama goalkeeper, and the more he struggled to pronounce, the more stuck it got. Another version says that Bilé was the goalkeeper of São Lourenço, the team in which played Edson's father - every time Bilé left for a defense, there was Edson shouting "Defend, Bilé!" - the little children friend of Edson could not reproduce the speech and the name ended turning as Pelé. The fact is that, regardless of version, Pelé is a name that has no other meaning in Portuguese than "King of Football".
Pelé became eternal for the quality and magic of his game. The moves that are still repeated in video scenes nowadays and that went into history. The lob on the Swedish defender in the 1958 final, the kick with a large turn from outside the defense area in Mexico in 1970, and the celebration of a goal in the same 1970 World Cup, an image which is imprinted in this cache's webpage.
For much of his career, Pele played for Santos, the unbeatable Santos of 60's and 70's. It was in the Santos squad that Pelé immortalized his shirt, number 10, which is still reserved for the most outstanding players of that team and the Brazilian national team itself (as well as this series of caches!). Speaking of the Brazilian national team, Pelé defended it in four World Cup participations and was champion in three of them: 1958 (C), 1962 (C), 1966 and 1970 (C).
Obviously, besides the number 10, there were many other legacies of Pelé, one of them is his "punch in the air" celebration after a goal. It was also by his work that came the term "plaque goal" so famous in Portuguese (created by journalist Joelmir Betting) - in reference to the bronze plaque that up today adorns the Maracanã and celebrates an unforgettable goal scored by him at Santos, in a victory against Fluminense.
Few people know that in 1967 a civil war occurred in the then Belgian Congo - the opposing factions declared a temporary truce because of the passage of the Brazilian team on a visit to Africa, with Pelé aboard. Finally, Pelé was still Minister of Sports of the Brazilian government between 1995 and 1998.
The owner of this cache series solemnly expresses his much regrets to the Argentines, French, German, Portuguese and fans of so many other nationalities , fans of really good players, but come on, let's face one truth here: King of Football, only one - Edson Arantes do Nascimento, or Pelé simply!
To solve the puzzle, find the stadium where Pelé scored his famous #1000 goal. Find the center mark of the field and take note of its coordinates. Consider the coordinates under the following format:
