Geocache Description:

"Ohio Spirit Quest"

The Ohio Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Buckeye Pioneers. This series is inspired by and a continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by Six Dog Team. In just over three years, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over 550 caches, with the hiding teams growing as well. The Ohio Spirit Quest has grown to over 60 in Ohio, with five current caching teams, three each with A Man and His Dog, one with a Couple and Their Dog... and one with A Woman and her Dog.
Over 1,000 cachers have logged over 20,000 finds. One cache machine found 111 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

The history of this cemetery started with Wm. & Sarah Pierce Ensign of Peru, Mass, They settled here in the forest about 1810, Wm. died in 1838 and was among the first buried in this cemetery formerly part of his farm. He was the first Justice of the Peace of Monroe Township, elected in 1819. The first person actually buried in this cemetery was, Judge Amos Kellogg in 1830. The Village of Kelloggsville derives it name from Amos & Martin Kellogg. The first death in Monroe Twp. was an infant child of Jonathan Harrington & wife in 1805 or 06. The first death of an adult was Mrs. Cornelius Weidner in 1808 and her husband in 1809. They were buried on Mr. Harrington's land in the East part of Kelloggsville. The North & South road, just East of the Village now passes directly over these first graves. The single grave of "Hannah M. Kent, August 14, 1860" not in this cemetery is located on a hill in a cow pasture on the S.E. Corner of Rt. 7 & Hatches Corners Rd. A Church once stood here.
