Kakiat Park is home to several hiking trails, picnicking, horseback riding, and scenic lookouts. Dogs are welcome, but off-leash only in the dog run off the parking lot. This land is part of the the Harris patent, one of the original land patents from the King of England. The Blauvelt Family owned and farmed the land for over 200 years. The foundation of the Blauvelt mill still remains on the blue Old Mill trail.
The cache can be accessed via several routes. Easiest way is to park in Kakiat parkng lot on Route 202 in Montebello, and follow orange trail. Near GZ there is a large rock my kids call "the couch". Feel free to stand on this furniture to make the most of the scenic view.
The park is home to many forms of wildlife, including Timber Rattlesnakes and bears. You will likely see many White-tailed deer so please be cautious as the area has its share of ticks. Rockland County permit #DER026
