Cabalgamiento de Zarzuela del Monte Traditional Geocache

Este caché, al igual que su hermano y vecino de las Cárcavas de Ituero se encuentra localizado en un L.I.G (Lugar de Interés Geológico) conocido como Cabalgamiento de Zarzuela del Monte (Segovia).

Se encuentra en un lugar al que es muy fácil llegar ya que está en el antiguo trazado de la N-110 al que se accede desde la calzada actual justo al llegar al hito que marca el Km 220.

El caché está localizado justo enfrente de la falla que ha quedado a la vista gracias al desmonte y excavación que se realizó cuando se construyó el desdoblamiento de la citada carretera N-110 con el objetivo de agilizar el tráfico para salvar el desnivel que hay en ese punto, muy seguramente provocado en su momento por el pliegue y elevación de los materiales subyacentes que a la postre conformaron la propia falla.

Un cabalgamiento o falla inversa consiste en una fractura de materiales que se produce en un ángulo de escasa magnitud, casi cercano a la horizontal que facilita que los materiales antiguos remonten sobre los mas modernos bajo la acción de fuerzas de compresión que en este caso concreto empujaron y deslizaron antiguos granitos sobre las arenas del terciario.

La falla de Zarzuela se encuentra bajo la Urbanización Las Jarillas y como se puede ver el granito aún siendo mucho más antiguo que las finas arenas se encuentra por encima de estas y se intuye como pudo remontarlos gracias a la cicatriz que dejaron las obras de la carretera. El resto es producto de la erosión y del paso del tiempo.

El objetivo de este caché es dar a conocer este L.I.G. como curiosidad geológica.

This cache, as his brother and neighbor of the Cárcavas de Ituero is hidden in a P.G.I. (Place of Geological Interest) known as Overthrust of Zarzuela del Monte (Segovia).

It is in a place of the easiest access where it has been located in the former route of the N-110 to which one accedes from the current road rightly, just arriving at the milestone that marks the Km 220.

The cache is located just opposite the fault that has stayed at sight thanks to the felling and excavation that was realized when there was constructed the unfolding of the mentioned road N-110 by the aim to improve the traffic to save the difference that exists in this point very surely caused in his moment by the fold and elevation of the underlying materials that at last shaped the own fault.

A overthrust or inverse fault consists of a fracture of materials that takes place in an angle of scanty magnitude, almost near to the horizontal one that facilitates that the ancient materials mount on the modern under the action of forces of compression that in this concrete case pushed and slided former granites on sands of the tertiary age.

The fault of Zarzuela is under the Urbanization Las Jarillas where the granite can be seen over the thin sands even being much more ancient and is felt thanks to the scar that the works left. The rest is a work of the erosion and of the passage of time.

The aim of this cache is to announce this L.I.G. as geological curiosity.
