How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

This is the start of a challenge trail along a fairly quiet road. Enjoy the peacefulness and scenery. Please CITO while caching as the sides of the road is pretty littered. This cache is a CHALLENGE cache. While it is located at the above coordinates, please read the description before you commence your search.

You must qualify by meeting the requirements of this challenge in order to log a find.

Difficulty rating is based on meeting the challenge qualifications. Terrain rating matches the hide location of the container.

100 Stars Challenge - 3/3+ Edition

Please note that all cache finds must occur within Ontario to meet the requirements of this cache.

How do you calculate the star value for a cache?

That's easy. Simply take the Difficulty rating for a cache and add its Terrain Value to it. A cache with the Difficulty and Terrain rating shown below is worth 8 stars (3.5 Difficulty + 4.5 Terrain = 8 stars).

Difficulty:
Terrain:

To reach 100 stars in a single caching day is not very hard anymore because of power trails. This challenge is the oppisite of power trails; finding D/T rated caches above 3 Difficulty and 3 Terrain and collecting stars. If you were to only find 3/3 caches then you would have to find 17 caches. You were to find all 5/5 caches you would only have to visit 10 caches. How many will it take you?

Are there other bragging rights than FTF?

There are many interesting ways in which to reach or exceed 100 stars in a single day above the 3/3 ratings. In addition to listing the cacher(s) to get FTF on the cache page, I will also provide the following statistics at the end of the cache page:
  1. Top highest star values of cachers on their qualifying days. How far above 100 will they go?
  2. Top cacher with the fewest caches needed to qualify for this challenge. How close to 10 will they get? Note that if you exceed 100 stars when qualifying, I will use the fewest number of caches you needed on that day to reach 100 stars.
  3. Top cacher with the most caches used to qualiffy for this challenge. How close to 100 will they get? Note that if you exceed 200 stars when qualifying, I will use the most number of caches you needed on that day to reach 200 stars.
  4. Cachers with exactly 100 stars on their qualifying day. Who is interested in precision?
  5. Any cacher able to qualify for this cache with exactly 10 cache finds.
  6. Any cacher able to qualify for this cache with exactly 17 cache finds.
  7. The first cacher to qualify for this challenge after publication. Because previous finds must count per current geocaching.com guidelines, this will be a special pat on the back for those that qualify after publication.
