Poluotok Monumenti i otok Sv. Katarina dugo su vremena bili nedostupni za javnost - od sredine 19. do pocetka 20. stoljeca ovo je podrucje bilo dio mocne Austro-Ugarske ratne mornarice, a za vrijeme Jugoslavije ovdje je bila smjestena Jugoslavenska ratna mornarica. Na otoku Sv. Katarina, koji je s kopnom povezan mostom, nalazila se zgrada zapovjednistva. Danas je ovaj dio grada otvoren za sve gradjane, a navodno bi ovdje za nekoliko godina trebao niknuti luksuzni turisticki kompleks.

Peninsula Monumenti and island St. Katarina were for a long time closed for public - from middle of the 19th to beginngs of 20th century, this area was part of mighty Austro-Hungarian Navy, and during Yugoslavia here was situated Yugoslav Navy. On the island St. Katarina, which is connected to the land by bridge, was headquarters of naval army. This part of city is today available to visit for everyone, and in few years this area should become home of luxury turistic complex.
