This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. Even though the log shoot hasn’t been used in decades you can still see the incredible craftsmanship that went into creating it.
This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. There are 44 geocaches hidden within 11 state parks and state historic sites in the Saratoga/Capital District region, and geocachers finding them all will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. The log shoot is a relic from a time long ago when the Hudson River was one of the most important natural resource in the region. It was a hard life for those who chose to be a lumberjack as a line of work, but it’s those people and their hard work that made this area a business center of New York State. Being a lumberjack was not only hard work but very dangerous work. The main function of the log shoot was to get the logs from the forest to the water and from there to the paper mill in Glens Falls. In a time when all the work was done by hand and with horses, the log shoot made their work day just a little easier and safer. Even though the log shoot hasn’t been used in decades you can still see the incredible craftsmanship that went into creating it.
The items in the cache that relate to the park are souvenirs that do not need to be replaced with a trade item.
