Geocache Description:

This church is decorated in the early 14th century, however there is evidence to suggest that this church has been subjected to extreme heat as noted by the limestone which turns pink, so this church may have Norman links as it would have had a thached roof.

There are 5 bells in full working order. One of the bells was made by Thomas Darby in Norfolk before he moved to Kings Lynnin 1450.

At the time the church was constructed there were 4 manors in Besthorpe and the Proir of Wymondham Abbey was the Patron.

Spelman suggests that the place name means "Best village" hence Besthorpe drived "from the goodness of its soil". But others suggest it many have Viking origins the Bosi family.

The tomb inside is that of Sir William Drury who died in 1639 with Lady Mary kneeling at his side. they lived in Besthorpe Hall.

Thank You to Rev. Matthew Jackson for permission to place this cache.

You will need to BYOP, Please rehide so as to avoid detection.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
