Geocache Description:

This is a short multi on paved paths. The cache is within 300m of the church; When placed the cache contained an unregistered geocoin as first to find prize

I walk through this churchyard nearly every day. I love the view you get of St John's from the town, looking up Broad Street. St John's peeps out behind the Georgian colour-washed houses.

There has been a church on this site for at least 800 years, but little remains of the earliest buildings. It had to be rebuilt after the great fire of Alresford in 1689. In1898 it was given a major overhaul. The lower part of the tower is C14, the upper red brickwork is C17. There is a stone with a carved cross set into the tower above the door which comes from a much earlier building. The tower houses a ring of eight bells hung for full circle ringing. The sound of these peal out over the town, and with the rumble and whistle of the steam trains nearby create a distinctive Alresford sound. Now for the cache; The co-ordinates take you towards the very attractive chuch gates, to a map of the town. Bottom Right; How many castles? = A How many shells? = B Top; How many miles to London? = C D Go to N 51.05.400 W001.09.684 The notice tells you about the small cross above the church door. What is the date of the cross? = E F G H Please note – the cache is NOT in the church grounds. The cache can be found at N 51.05. (A-B) (C-E) G W001.09. (G+E) (F+H) (D+B) If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication To view the church micro stats page, please click here
