Geocache Description:

Khiva, the fortress in the sand. It took us 11 hours on a terrible road to get here and we were just like thousands before us - overjoyed to see the minarets of Khiva telling us we were close to clean water, beds and food.

Khiva is the most intact and most remote of Central Asia's Silk Road cities. The walls are impressive as well as imposing even after centuries.

This city has a chequered past with slave markets and intigue. Today is somewhat quieter with tourist shops and paved areas.

The South Gate is near the Asia Hotel, Khiva. This corner of the Old City is away from the main buildings and doesn't have so many muggles about.

The cache is located inside the gate on the left side if you are looking out of the Old City. White film canister.

Small note on cache maintenance: There is a local cache guardian. Name and contact info on file with geocaching.com.
