Diz-se que aquando da construção da A12, várias pessoas foram expropriadas das suas terras e receberam em troca um valor irrisório. As pessoas não ficaram contentes, e desse descontentamento terá nascido o que hoje é chamado de Mistério dos Perdidos da A12.
Consta que um dos expropriados, um senhor de idade avançada e que tinha passado grande parte da sua vida em diversas comunidades em África, não se conformou com a perca das suas terras, sua única forma de sustento, e lançou algum tipo de bruxaria vodu sobre a autoestrada.
Será lenda? História do povo? Ou será que esta história está de alguma forma relacionada com os desaparecimentos que têm ocorrido, todas as 6ªs feiras dia 13, a quem exactamente às 0:00h tem o infortúnio de passar naquele ponto da estrada?
