While out one day with the FDR Park Manager, scouting locations for geocaches, he suggested the spit of land that sticks out into the lake. We headed over to the area, only to find that the peninsula is now an island. Oops! Can't get there from here! So, we placed this cache nearby instead.
Beaver activity in the area occasionally causes some severe flooding, (Thus the peninsula turned island...) and you will possibly have to wade through ankle-deep water on the access road, or bushwack your way around it . Therefore the 2.5 terrain rating. However, once you're past that area, this should be a quick grab.
Look across the lake. Maybe you'll see a beaver lodge, or catch sight of the pesky buggers themselves!
PS.... When parking, please do not block the gate. Oh, and you also can't get there from the Taconic Parkway. Please do not try. THANKS!
