Everyone is welcome to join The Northern New Jersey Cachers (NNJC) SUNDAY MAY 20th 2012, 10AM- 12PM as we launch the new Duke Farms Geotrail during this Meet and Greet event.

The Duke Farms Meet and Greet Event will be located at the Duke Farms Orientation Center, 1112 Duke Parkway West, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.

The Duke Farms Geotrail is a unique journey through Local New Jersey history across the scenic landscapes of the Duke Farms. Participating cachers will have the chance to visit the grounds of the historic Duke Farms to tour many interesting sites and discover the many cultural landmarks around the grounds of the property.

What is a Geotrail ?

A “geotrail” is a series of caches tied together by a common topic or theme and to showcase an historic location. Geocachers who complete the DUKE FARMS GEOTRAIL with receive a commemorative Duke Farms Token of their adventure. (one per registered Geocaching name only)

Completing the Geotrail

The Duke Farms Geotrail is a geocaching trail consisting of eleven different type geocaches placed around the beautiful 1000 acre Duke Farms Estate; these geocaches are located at many interesting sites to explore along your journey. Along the Geotrail visitors will encounter old farming structures, statues, lakes, fountains with beautiful views of this magnificent property. Geocachers should plan to spend enough time to explore the area while completing the geotrail, the trail is approximately 5 miles and will take a few hours to complete.

The Duke farms Geotrail cache brochures is necessary for official participation and to receive the token

GEOCACHERS MUST STOP IN THE DUKE FARMS ORIENTATION CENTER TO OBTAIN A GEOTRAIL BROCHURE FROM THE ATTENDANT AT THE FRONT DESK BEFORE EMBARKING ON THE CHALLENGE. THEN, CACHERS MUST RETURN TO THE DUKE FARMS ORIENTATION CENTER AND PRESENT THEIR COMPLETED BROCHURE WITH THE SECRET WORD TO THE ATTENDENT AT THE FRONT DESK BEFORE RECEIVING THEIR DUKE FARMS GEOCHALLENGE TOKEN.

Inside each of the eleven geocaches is a laminated clue card with a specific letter; cachers must collect all the letters for the eleven geocaches to uncover the secret word to fill out on the brochure. Geocachers then bring their completed brochures to the Orientation Center redemption site for verification completion and to receive a commemorative Duke Farms Token.

The Duke Farms Geotrail is designed to be very Family friendly and accessible by the greatest number of people, but in the interest of hidden off the paved trail, they are not all wheelchair accessible.

The Duke Farm Geotrail project is an exciting partnership between the Duke Farms Foundation and The Northern New Jersey Cachers, NNJC.org who have partnered and volunteered their time, expertise and assistance and help develop and implement this geotrail We also thank Geocaching.com for their support of this project!

GEOCACHING-101 TABLE
