L'église Saint-Cirgues ou Saint-Cyr à Châteauneuf-les-Bains (63) C’était l’église paroissiale. Sa construction remonte au 10e siècle, sans doute sur un site fortifié. L’accès d’ailleurs n’en est pas aisé. Elle fut supplantée par l’église Saint-Valentin (voir pp) et fut désaffectée au XVIII°. La statue de St-Cyr qui se trouve dans la chapelle St-Valentin provient peut-être de cet édifice. De cette église Saint-Cirgues ou Saint-Cyr, il ne reste que des ruines, sur la colline de la presqu’île de Saint-Cyr. On y accède (à pied) par le chemin qui part sous le Pic Alibert (surmonté de la Vierge), puis –le site est fléché – par un sentier assez raide, au bout duquel on a un beau panorama sur le méandre de la Sioule. Ce sont les années, la Révolution de 1789 mais surtout le pillage qui ont fait qu'il ne reste que des ruines au milieu des broussailles de la presqu'île. S'il est certain que l'édifice était de petites dimsensions,on suppose qu'il était à nef unique avec des bancs taillés directement dans la roche. En 1681, le seigneur de Châteauneuf céda une parcelle près de la chapelle Saint-Valentin pour y construire un presbytère, un jardin et un cimetière. Et c'est ainsi que Saint-Valentin supplanta Saint-Cirgues.
