Interstate 185 - The World’s Longest Exit Ramp!
Travelers driving along Interstate 85 between Atlanta, Georgia and Montgomery, Alabama will find themselves passing under a large sign that reads “I185 – Columbus”. Should they take this exit, they will be driving along an interstate highway that goes only one place – Columbus, Georgia. For the next 40 miles they will cruise down a wide, smooth and very boring stretch of roadway with nothing to look at except one Georgia pine tree after another. Services are very limited along the northern portion of this highway and it’s not until the traveler reaches Exit 12 – Williams Road in Columbus - that they will find more than an infrequent convenience store/gas station. A cache is placed at each of the “country” interchanges along I185 to give you something to look forward to besides the pine trees. Some will be “Park and Grabs” and a couple will be a little more complicated. Each will have a unambiguous hint so you can control the amount of time you spend hunting any one cache. Use the hint if you wish but that may take some of the fun out of the hunt! My purpose is to break the road hypnosis that this highway causes and provide you with a little fun as you travel. Happy Caching! Drive Safely!!
FULL DISCLOSER:
I borrowed the idea for this series of caches from the "Loop to Loop" series that runs along I40 from Memphis Tennessee to Hartford Tennessee. Full credit should go the cachers who built and maintain that series for this idea. That’s assuming, of course, that they didn’t borrow the idea from someone else!
