Valvignères, la vallée des vignes n'était pas encore dotée de caches, il a donc été décidé que ce serait la première à bénéficier de la création de caches par la collectivité.
Valvignères, the valley of the vines was not yet equipped with caches, it was decided that this would be the first to benefit from the creation of caches by the community.
Au Ier siècle avant J-C, lorsqu’Alba devient la capitale de l’Helvie, la petite vallée, qui d’Alba se prolonge vers le sud, va rentrer dans l’Histoire.
Appelée à l’époque gallo-romaine « Vallis Vinaria » en raison des nombreux vignobles qui la recouvraient, elle produit un vin réputé qui fait l’objet d’un commerce florissant à partir d’Alba.
Fidèle à sa tradition viticole, Valvignères se développe au cours des siècles. La population atteint son maximum en 1856 avec 1120 habitants. Dans les années qui suivent, beaucoup de Valvignérois quittent le pays, ruiné par la crise du phylloxéra qui détruit le vignoble. La population amorce une courbe descendante dès cette deuxième moitié du XIXème siècle.
Aujourd’hui, la population résidente est de 420 habitants.
In the 1st century BC, when Alba became the capital of Helvie, the valley which goes southwards from Alba became a part of history.
In Gallo-Roman times, this valley as called “Vallis Vinaria” because of the numerous vines which grew there and which produced a reputable wine giving rise to au flourishing trade from Alba.
Throughout the centuries, Valvignères remained faithful to its Wine-growing tradition. Its population grew to its maximum of 1,120 inhabitants in 1856. During the next few years, many inhabitants left the area, ruined by the phylloxera disease which destroyed the vines. As of the second half of the 19th century, the population declined steadily.
Today, the number of permanent residents is around 420.
