East of Silver City, North of Fort Bayard, 1.3 mile hike from 6500' to 6900' elevation on an old woods road. Last 500' is without trail.
Cache is located in the back of an overhanging ledge, behind a large flat rock. The overhanging ledge (opening about 3' high by 7' wide) is best observed if approached from the south. Start hiking from the "Big Tree" parking lot near the old nursery or "horse training center" about 4 miles north of the Fort Bayard Medical Center, which is immediately north of the town of Santa Clara. By the way, we have seen Deer, Elk, javelina, owls, and even Bear in the area.
