Geocache Description:

A short hike in the Yakima River Delta.

Wa*Ka Wa*Ka (adj) The sound heard when young cougars hone in and make their "kill" while searching for "prey".

I recently had the privilege of hearing this unique chilling sound while searching for caches in the hills east of Ellensburg. Once you hear the cry of the young cougar, it is too late!

Credit for the idea goes to Chief Charlie & Happy Feet (see GC2TM74 log dated 5/22/2011)

and thanks to Cougneff, SoccerGirl40, et al for being such great sports

Note from Cougneff: We emptied the den today in order to seek a fresh kill. The young cougars quickly picked up the scent and began stalking toward their prey (photo 1). As both mother and father looked on the young ones carefully worked their way toward their prey bush by bush. Look carefully to find them as they blend in so well (photo 2). Although they young ones arrived first, it was the oldest and wisest cougar that spotted the prey and hollered out the family call Wa*Ka Wa*ka! He moved away from the area and allowed the others in the hunt party a chance to make the kill as well. Wa*Ka Wa*Ka followed again in the air as the mother cougar spied the prey, quickly followed by the youngest cougar with a quick and high pitched Wa*Ka Wa*Ka. Last was the oldest cougar daughter. We blame it that she was kicked out of the geo-den and was named SoccerGirl40 in the last year. She was the last to spy it after some confusion (photo 3). Then came her call of Wa*Ka Wa*Ka! With the whole group having successfully made the find, I mean kill, we retrieved the prey and made work of its innards. The group then posed after a successful outing (photo 4)! Caching is something that our whole family enjoys. The thrill of the hunt was always great but we quickly learned that if one person kept pulling the cache out the others lost interest quickly. This is why we instituted the call of Wa*Ka Wa*Ka. The origins are from the 2010 FIFA World Cup song sung by Shakira. SoccerGirl40 was credited with the suggestion. It also doesn't let any nearby muggles on that we "found it". Our den has become sneaky sometimes relocating themselves away from ground zero to throw off the other members. This has been successfully used on other cachers as well.
