FRANCAIS

Le Pic Alibert Jean-Pierre Alibert était ingénieur ; c'est au cours de recherches sur le Mont Batougol en Sibérie qu'il a découvert du graphite. Perclus de rhumatisme à la suite de ses séjours dans la glaciale Sibérie, il a cherché à soulager ses maux en venant faire des cures à Châteauneuf à partir de 1871. C’est alors qu’il a eu l’opportunité de réaliser un vœu fait sur le Mont Batougol d’ériger une statue à la Vierge qui lui avait permis d’échapper à la mort. C’est ainsi qu’une statue de la Vierge a été installée au sommet d’un promontoire rocheux et qu’un escalier a été réalisé pour accéder à la plate-forme. Inaugurée en 1893 la statue avec son socle mesure plus de 3 mètres de hauteur.

Pic Alibert Jean-Pierre Alibert was an engineer and it was during research on Mount Batougol in Siberia he discovered graphite. Crippled with rheumatism as a result of his stays in icy Siberia, he sought to relieve his pain by coming to cures in Chateauneuf from 1871. He then had the opportunity to make a vow made on Mount Batougol to erect a statue to the Virgin which had enabled him to escape death. Thus, a statue of the Virgin was installed atop a rocky promontory and a staircase was made to access the platform. Inaugurated in 1893 the statue with its pedestal measure over 3 meters high.
