- A = the minimum depth of the start end of the pool (in meters) according to the Canadian rulebook; times three (rounded off).
- B = the number of letters in the first stroke of the individual medley.
- C = the number of letters in the stroke most commonly used in the last leg of the medley subtract one.
- D = the distance the recall (drop) rope is from the starting end of the pool (in meters). Add the digits together.
- E = the tens digit in the length of a short course pool (in meters).
- F = the number of letters in the name of the breaststroke kick.
