Geocache Description:

The church of St Gregory the Great, Venn Ottery is one of the older churches in Devon, with the Saxon church tower dating back to about 1095. The tower is built of local red stone, and the original nave had a thatched roof, although today it is slated following a disastrous fire in the 18th century. Venn Ottery, formally Fen Ottery, is located in East Devon. Historically it formed part of East Budleigh Hundred. It falls within Ottery Deanery for ecclesiastical purposes. The population was 127 in 1801and 111 in 1901. The lay subsidy of 1524 valued the community at £2/10/04. This micro cache is placed with kind permission of Newton Poppleford & Harpford Parish Council. Parking is available close by at the entrance to Barton Mews at N50.42.782 W003.18.302.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
