Geocache Description:

Once upon a time, Geo-Pup Bear wanted to go for a canoe ride. And what better place to do it than here, at one of Florida's very first state parks? This geocache is placed in Hillsborough River State Park near one of the parking areas and the canoe launch. You are looking for a small lock-n-lock. This area can be busy on a hot summer day, so be sure to wear your muggle repellent!

The Hillsborough River is named after Wills Hills, the British Colonial Secretary and Lord Earl of Hillsborough. During the Seminole Indian Wars, Fort Alabama was built here to protect the bridge over the Hillsborough River. The fort was abandoned within a few months and eventually burned down. However, Fort Foster was built less than a year later on the same site. In 1938, this park was opened to the public after being partially developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

This geocache is placed in Hillsborough River State Park with the permission of park management and assistance of park staff. Please remember to cache responsibly and stay on designated trails. Practice Cache-In-Trash-Out (when you can) and replace the geocache exactly as found so that the next person can enjoy the find!

The park is open from 8:00AM until sundown, 365 days a year. The admission fees are as follows: $6.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle. $4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle. $2.00 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass. Camping is available in the park as well.
