"A good cacher always has a pen."
That is a motto that is well known in the caching community but sometimes, no matter how good you are, you may find yourself without a pen to sign with OR the pen decides at this moment that the ink has run out! And you don't have a back up pen!
I found this happened to me one day and, of course, I was more then 600metres from my vehicle. I was only going for one cache so just took my GPSr with me and left my caching bag in the vehicle. I didn't realize that the pen that is usually hanging from my GPSr was not there and I didn't have a pen in my pocket! I soon discovered this when I arrived at the cache and reached for my pen. Darn! And of course, there was nothing to write with in the container. I didn't expect there to be but sometimes there is... not this time!
I found a stick put a leaf on the end of it and signed the letter 'B' with the green from the leaf. I also took a pic of the container and the green 'B' with my phone.
Never again have I forgotten my pen, and always have a good supply of them in my caching bag and at least 2 or 3 in my pockets!
Container is a small lock n' lock just a short walk in on the trail.
