Geocache Description:

This is a small secluded cove at the foot of Bray Head that is well used by local swimmers. There are some steep steps leading down from the carpark.

You do not have to move any rocks to find this cache! Please leave it exactly as you found it.

This stretch of coastline was popular with smugglers during the 18th century. The merchant ships would drop off contraband, in small boats under cover of darkness, before heading on to Dublin. The " Brandy hole" was a large cave, a short distance from Naylor's cove, that was famous for this. Naylor's Cove has always been popular with swimmers and during Victorian times the Railway Co. built a halt above it c. 1900. This closed in 1929. The sea baths were very popular until the 1960's and regular swimming competitions were held there. Sadly today the baths are in ruins although people still swim there. The local council started cleaning up the cove in 2011, and hopefully they will continue this work. This is a natural cove and should really be restored to its natural condition. If you get a chance to see one of the ghostly tall ships like the " Jeanie Johnston" passing by it will remind you of the smugglers long ago.

Congratulations to Donnacha on FTF!!
