Geocache Description:

Part of the Lehigh Valley Geocachers GeoPark
Lehigh Valley Geocachers GeoPark

What is a GeoPark?
Several members of Lehigh Valley Geocachers volunteered to hide interesting and unusual caches in a small, concentrated area. We call this zone a “GeoPark.” If you plan your caching just right, you may qualify for a “One Busy Day” cache. Enjoy!

Hugh Moore Park Notes:
The GeoPark is located on a portion on Hugh Moore Park. Ample parking and picnic tables are available, in addition to biking and hiking trails. You may also enjoy a mule-drawn canal boat ride (fee required) and explore the Emerick Technology Center (admission fee, included with canal boat ride). It’s a wonderful location for a family to spend a day.

Hours: 8am to dusk
Pets: permitted on the east side of the park, only; pets not permitted in the area near the canal boat, technology center or locktender's house, (the west side of the park).

About this Cache:
Many of you associate "Iron Pigs" with the Lehigh Valley's minor league Triple-A baseball affiliate to the major league Philadelphia Phillies. However, the term "Iron Pigs" in the Lehigh Valley references what happened right here on this island before Hugh Moore Park existed.

The Lehigh Valley's first industrial park opened for business in here 1832. Between 1850 and 1880 about 30% of the country's iron was produced here. This iron was referred to as "Pig Iron" and the workers were called "Iron Pigs".

You are looking for a Large container (bigger than an ammo can). Inside you will find a special stamp, stamp pad, and a stamp book/log. These items need to stay in the cache for other cachers. Please DO NOT take them!

The purpose of Letterboxing is to collect stamps. So if you have a rubber stamp and a stamp book, bring them with you and stamp our book with your rubber stamp and add the date and your Geocaching name, then stamp your book with our rubber stamp and write down the name of the cache an the date in your stamp book. If you you don't have your own stamp, that's OK, just sign the log like any other cache.

Please keep these items in the cache and replace them as found. Also, replace the cache better than you found it since it is a LARGE and it can be muggled easier.
