Le parcours proposé ici fait partie du « Sentier des lauzes » (marqué rouge-jaune), un chemin de randonnée autour du commune de Saint-Mélany dans la vallée de la Drobie (région Rhône-Alpes dans le Sud du département de l'Ardèche). Cette vallée autrefois cultivée en terrasses, constitue un espace préservé et sauvage au climat méditerranéen. Faiblement peuplée après plusieurs décennies d'exode rural, elle connait aujourd'hui un renouveau du fait d'un développement touristique diffus.
Le sentier part sous la mairie de Saint-Mélany. Après avoir traversé le village, vous rejoignez un chemin bordé de vignes et de châtaigniers. Après le hameau de l’Eyrolle, le sentier remonte en corniche la vallée de Pourcharesse et traverse des paysages en terrasses (« faïsses ») de vignes et de chataîgneraies. Après avoir traversé le hameau du Vernet, le sentier remonte autour du hameau du Travers et ensuite monte sur la crête dominant les deux vallées de Saint-Mélany et Dompnac. Arrivé sur la piste forestière vous éloignez du sentier et allez en direction nord pour retourner à la village de Saint-Mélany.
La distance est de 8 km, le parcours se situe entre 400 m et 700 m d’altitude.
Sachez que le « Sentier des Lauzes » n'est pas un simple itinéraire de randonnée. L’association du même nom a voulu créer un parcours d’art en paysage . Vous allez donc croiser de sculptures qui ont trouvé leur place dans cette vallée. Ces sculptures vous donneront les indices pour obtenir les coordonnées finales de cache.

This multi-cache follows part of the « Sentier des Lauzes » (marked with red – yellow), a hike around the community of Saint-Mélany in the Drobie valley (Rhône-Alpes region, southern part of the Ardèche department). This valley, consisting of terraced land, was largely maintained in its original state and has a Mediterranean climate. After decennia of rural depopulation the area became sparsely populated, but it actually shows some revival due to the increasing popularity of rural tourism.
The hike starts near the town hall of Saint-Mélany. After leaving the village, you will follow a path edged by vine and chestnut trees. After passing the parish l’Eyrolle the track runs along the flanks of the valley of the Pourcharesse brook. You will cross terraced land coverd with vineyards and chestnut tree plantations. Somewhat further is the parish Vernet where the trach rises steeply until the parish Travers. The path continues to rise until reaching the mountain ridge in between the valleys of Saint-Mélany and Dompnac. Then take the track on the ridge to return to Saint-Mélany.
The total distance is 8 km and altitude ranges between 400 m and 700 m.
It’s important to know that the « Sentier des Lauzes » is not just like any hiking trail. The association with the same name has created here a track of landscape art . Hence, you’ll encounter several works of art that are integrated in valley landscape. The information to be collected at these works of art will enable you to find the final cache location.

Het parcours van deze multi-cache volgt een deel van de « Sentier des Lauzes » (aangeduid met rood-geel), een wandeling rond de gemeente Saint-Mélany in de vallei van de Drobie (regio Rhône-Alpes in het zuiden van het departement Ardèche). Deze vallei, vroeger in terrassen bebouwd, is grotendeels in z'n oorspronkelijke vorm behouden gebleven en kent een Middellandse-Zee klimaat. Slechts dun bevolkt na verschillende decennia van plattelandsontvolking, kent zij vandaag de dag een nieuwe opleving als gevolg van een groeiend ruraal toerisme.
De wandeling start bij het gemeentehuis van Saint-Mélany. Na het doorkruisen van het dorp, kom je op een weg die afgeboord is met wijnstokken en tamme kastanjebomen. Even voorbij het gehucht l’Eyrolle loopt het pad verder op de helling van de vallei van de Pourcharesse. Je passeert langs terrassen begroeid met wijngaarden en aanplantingen van tamme kastanjebomen. Je doorkruist vervolgens het gehucht Vernet, waarna het pad steil omhoog loopt tot in het gehucht Travers. Hierna stijgt het wandelpad verder, tot op de heuvelkam tussen de valleien van Saint-Mélany en Dompnac. Vervolgens volg je de piste om terug te keren naar het startpunt.
De totale afstand bedraagt 8 km en de hoogte varieert tussen 400 m en 700 m.
Het is belangrijk te weten dat de « Sentier des Lauzes » niet zo maar een wandelpad is. De vereniging met dezelfde naam heeft hier een parcours van landschapskunst gecreëerd. Op je tocht zal je dus meerdere kunstwerken ontdekken die geïntegreerd zijn in het valleilandschap. De informatie die je bij de kunstwerken moet verzamelen, laten toe om de cachelocatie te vinden.
