Une histoire de
Famille
janvier 1777.

A family Story
Early on, the site of "Le Cannet" is occupied by the Romans who,
having driven the Ligurian tribes in the area, settling, planting
olive trees and named the place Olivetum.
In the XVth century, the monks of Lerins asked to families for
coming from the Val d'Oneglia Italy to clear and cultivate the
land. By an act of February 5, 1441, the abbey of Lerins grants
Sylvestre Calvy arable land at "Le Cannet". 140 families settled in
"Le Cannet" between 1441 and 1500 and give their names to parts of
the city (the cadastre of 1599): The Dany, the Ardisson, and other
Calvy Escars, Gourrin, Apie... which are divided into hamlets
surrounding arable land called the "near" (current and historic
city center).
In the sixteenth century, Cannes and "Le Cannet" form a single
joint.
In the mid-sixteenth century the relationship between "the city"
(Cannes), and "hamlets" (Le Cannet) are becoming increasingly
stormy. Despite the sentence Dec. 21, 1587 by the Abbot of Lerins
which gives" Cannettans" ("Le Cannet" peoples) some administrative
autonomy, the dispute will continue to grow and grow for another
two centuries, since self-government will never be fully
implemented.
A stop of King Louis XVI of August 9, 1774, erected the Cannet "in
the body of community separate from Cannes" which marks the
separation of land and those of "Le Cannet" and Cannes,
forming two separate administrative entities. The royal decree was
later entegistré by the parliament of Provence January 29,
1777.
