Geocache Description:

Located in a Natural Resources Forest area. Free Parking, picnic tables, hiking trails and etc.

This is Ontario's 2nd and Canada's 10th oldest and active geocache.

It was originally placed by Robert Oakden (accompanied by his dog, Indy) in April 2001.

When originally hidden back in February 2001, the cache was a white plastic container hanging in a net-bag on a tree branch at eye level.

Just a few feet away was a tree with a large crook in the trunk - hence the name "Bending Tree".

Robert gifted his geocaching account to RCA777 in 2009 to keep Bending Tree going. In 2010, quite by happenstance, RCA777 bumped into a member of the Copeland family (the forested area where the cache is hidden bears their family name). The Bending Tree cache quickly became a topic of conversation. Not only was the history of Robert's cache itself greatly appreciated - the idea that people drove from all around to visit Copeland Forest to find it.. well, that was truly spectacular!

In February 2011, a geocaching Event was organized to celebrate Bending Tree's 10th anniversary. Robert accepted the invitation to the Event... and Attendees were thrilled to meet the person responsible for a storied part of Ontario's geocaching history. Robert was amazed that something he hid on a whim while walking Indy so many years before was still being enjoyed.

Robert passed away in December 2017. GC384 is part of Robert and Indy's legacy which can hopefully be enjoyed for many years to come.

Due to the cache being muggled on a few occasions, the container is currently an ammo-can, located at the same co-ordinates.
Please take the time to re-hide the cache once you have finished signing the log. This is Ontario's second oldest and active geocache!
