This is the first T5 Geocache in this Country and it is a real
adventure in a stunning scenery. To get to the Cache you have to do
a Multipitchclimb in the rural area of Laos. That means there won't
be a rescueteam or a helicopter that brings you back to your
guesthouse if you get stuck somewhere in the wall. You even have to
be very lucky if another climbingteam is passing by in the next 2-3
weeks because it is a very infrequent used route. The coordinates
showing you the start of the climb. The way to get there is
challenging and very hard to find but it is easy to get lost in the
jungle. So I recommend to take a native guide who shows you the way
to get there and can tell you something about the area and the
traditions of this beautiful and fascinating country.
The way to the cache: I got that information from Volker
Schoeffels Topo which you can download at laos-climbing.com Take
the road north of Vang Vieng, after 2km leave it to the left,
following the sign to Tham None Cave (Sleeping Cave). As you get to
the river (Nam Song) yell for the boatmen on the other side to take
you across. Tubers Paradise Wall (where the route is) is the big
face, further down the valley in between the Sleeping Cave and
Sleeping Wall. Follow the small trail into the jungle, continuing
left at the irrigation channel. Traverse is at the spot where a
little bridge is (2 tree logs). Continue first left than straight
to the end of the secondary jungle. From there follow the jungle
trail, which is market with orange trail marks. Take care on the
trail, a lot of the rocks are very sharp and loose.
The Cache: The cache is hidden in an obvious cave at the second
belayingstation. Climb a few meters inside and you will find it to
your right. The Climb: The route is called "No fear my dear" and is
5 pitches long. It is graded 6c+. But only the last two are that
hard. The first three are 6a+. So you need to feel comfortable in
that kind of grade to get to the cache.
Everything is on your own risk: You are responsible for all your
acting. Even in largest caution there is a very high risk and so
take really good care. I wish you a beautiful climb, with mad
impressions. A healthy comeback and enjoy the scenic view before
you start your search.
Small note on cache maintenance: Our guide knows
where the cache is, will provide maintenance. His name and contact
info is on file with geocaching.com.
