MONTE DE SAN ANTON

El monte o cerro de San Antón es prolongación hacia el sur de los montes de Málaga. Esta coronado por dos elevaciones casi gemelas de 495 y 511 m de cota respectivamente, siendo la más alta la que se halla situada hacia levante. Son por lo tanto las alturas más prominentes de cuantas bordean nuestra ciudad pudiendo observarse allá en la lejanía, desde casi cualquier punto de Málaga en que nos encontremos, siendo inconfundibles por su característica silueta.
Tan cerca y sin embargo tan lejos de nosotros, no son muchos los malagueños que se han aventurado a caminar por sus vericuetos y han alcanzado sus cumbres.
Su florifauna es la característica del bosque mediterráneo con algarrobos, encinas, pinos y plantas aromáticas como el tomillo y el romero. Del mundo animal destacar que es hábitat del camaleón común (Chamaeleo chamaeleon), especie protegida que tiene en estos parajes su morada. Señalar también que aún quedan restos aunque en pequeña cuantía, de la actividad humana que explotó sus laderas hasta hace poco ( sobre todo en su vertiente norte) , notándose la presencia de olivos y almendros asi como derruidos “lagares” en los que se supone se elaboró el vino característico de estas latitudes.
Señalar por último que desde sus cumbres puede otearse con nitidez, tanto hacia el este como hacia el oeste, todo el entorno de la ciudad y su bahía, siendo un placer su contemplación.
En las proximidades de la cumbre situada a poniente se halla el caché y también una cruz muy visitada por las personas que hasta allí suben y de la que según se dice, aunque este dato no está confirmado, se erigió en recuerdo de un joven que se despeñó por unas de sus laderas.

The mountain or hill of San Antón is an extension to the south of the mountains of Malaga. This crowned by two almost twin elevations 495 and 511 m in elevation respectively, with the highest which is situated to the east. They are therefore the most prominent heights few can be seen bordering our city in the distance beyond, from almost anywhere in Málaga where you were, being distinctive by their characteristic shape.
So close and yet so far from us, not many who have ventured from Malaga to walk through the loopholes and have reached their peaks.
His florifauna is characteristic of Mediterranean forest with carob, oak, pine and herbs such as thyme and rosemary. The animal world is home to note that common chameleon (Chamaeleo Chamaeleon), a protected species in these parts has its abode. Also note that there are still remnants although small amounts of human activity that exploded its slopes until recently (especially in its northern slope), noticing the presence of olive and almond trees as well as ruined "presses" in which is supposed to the wine is characteristic of these latitudes.
Finally note that from their summits can otearse clearly, both to the east and west, all around the city and its bay, with a pleasure watching them.
In the vicinity of the summit is located the cache setting also visited by a cross people up there and it is said, although this was not confirmed, was erected in memory of a young man plunged by some of its slopes.
