Waterboy: We arrived at the cache location, with all plans to perform maintenance. Discovered that the hollow log that the cache was in had completely collapsed. The cache container was damaged and leaking. Decided to remove this cache, after a seven year life span.

Geocache Description:

The Eagles Nest is in State Game Lands No. 110 and can be reached by trails without bushwacking. There is a 1.2 mile trail to the Eagles Nest from the Appalachian Trail (AT).

There are two logical parking areas for this hike. One at the end of Forge Dam Road, the other off Route 183. From the Forge Dam Road Parking Area there are three routes, the shortest is about 4 miles. From 183 the route is about 5 miles. To install the cache we came from Route 183.

WARNINGS
1. Rattlesnakes have been found regularly at the Eagles Nest. (See Photo). WE SAW A RATTLER ON 7/8/03 AND AGAIN ON 5/22/05 WHILE MAKING A MAINTENANCE CHECKS ON CACHE.
2. The Tom Lowe Trail from the Forge Dam Road Parking Area is not well maintained. The first half mile is particularly bad.
