Geocache Description:

Camp Simon-Roane Cache known as "Big Owl"

Attention! If you want to walk across the old bridge, be very careful, the bridge's construction began in 1983 & wasn't completed until the following year. The wood on this bridge hasn't been replaced since the early 90's. As far as other history on this site, I couldn't find much. I asked many muggles about this location & from what I was told, above the "Big Owl" cache location next to the bridge is an abandoned schoolhouse from the early 1900's. The Boy Scouts of America took ownership during the early eighties and they used the school as a storage facility & the area as a campground & with the help of the C&P telephone company built the bridge to cross the water during the flood season. They must not have taken residence here long because when I started playing here in the late 80's, nobody visited this place. If anyone has anymore input about this location let me know via email.

How this cache got it's name:
It was a cold fall night in 1992, I was with my friend out bike riding around 9'oclock. We left our bikes at the mouth of the bridge & as we were walking across it, we saw it!

Point Pleasant, WV call this creature the "MOTHMAN".
At first, it looked at us with faint red glowing eyes that increased in brightness within seconds & though it was pitch black that night, the silhoutte of this creature made the surroundings seem visible. It was at least 5' tall & floated a foot off the ground with no appearance of legs. When it darted across the bridge at us, it was silent except for the screams of two frightened boys jumping on their bikes & getting out of there quick!
We described it to our parents as a "Big Owl" with no legs & glowing red eyes, that's when we were told about the Mothman of Point Pleasant.
I have returned here many times & have not seen it again but this is still a scary place at night so keep a friend & a flashlight if come looking for this cache after the sun goes down.

FTF or anyone else who's interested, I left 3 books in the cache, they are a set please take all 3!
